I'm not open for Mother's Day, but I have Kurdish Dinner coming up. I just returned from a 4 week trip to Iraqi Kurdistan and of course I came back with recipes.

In Kurdistan, both at restaurants and in homes, a lot of food is eaten in a "Mushakal" (Mezze) style. The moment you are seated at any restaurant, a wide array of Mushakals would arrive. Staples were Kurdish style Hamous; Homemade yogurt w/ cucumbers, cabbage salad, pickled veggies, a salad of cucumbers, tomatoes and aubergines and lots of hot breads. I always found myself full when my meal would arrive, but nevertheless, I kept eating!!

Here's what I have planned for our "Kurdish Nights":
Family style of Kurdish Mushakal (Kurdish style Hamous; Homemade yogurt w/ cucumbers, cabbage salad, pickled veggies, a salad of cucumbers, tomatoes and aubergines and lots of hot breads)
Choice of main course from the following:
Tikka Kabob: Combination of charbroiled lamb and chicken
Dolmeh: Stuffed tomatoes and Zucchini served with chicken
Qozy Sham: A dish on rice layered with chicken, Lamb and veggie
Kubbeh: Minced meat wrapped in Bulgar and cooked in tomato sauce

All entrees served with Qaysi (A delicious sauce of cooked apricots and sour plums); Tapsi ( eggplants and bellpepers and zucchini simmered in tomato sauce) ; Bamiyeh (Okra in a tomato sauce) and sauteed spinach.

Dessert: Chai Kurdi and fresh fruit slices w/ a sweet Kurdish halva.
When: May 7  thru May May 18
Price: $33 per person ++
Regular menu also served

We'll play Kurdish music and when not cooking, I'll be dressed in traditional Iraqi Kurdish dress! I will also have beautiful pictures available for our diners to enjoy.
